[WATCH]- DC Coach Takes Cheeky Dig At Uncapped Indian Star Before IPL 2026

Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Hemang Badani playfully poked fun at Sameer Rizvi over his bowling claims during the franchise’s pre-season camp ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). The light-hearted moment came after the uncapped youngster hinted that he could contribute as a handy bowling option for the side.

The 22-year-old described himself as a mystery spinner, saying he could bowl off-spin, leg-spin and even the carrom ball. In response, the DC coach jokingly told him it would be better if the “mystery” stayed a mystery. The clip of their amusing exchange was shared by DC on their official X handle on Tuesday, February 17.

Reacting to Rizvi’s confident claims about his bowling, Hemang Badani quipped:

“Mystery ko mystery hi rehne de (Keep the mystery a mystery only).”

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals had a disappointing season last year despite a strong start under new captain Axar Patel. They won their first four games but failed to maintain momentum, eventually finishing fifth with 15 points from 14 matches and missing out on the playoffs.

Sameer Rizvi’s IPL Career Overview

Sameer Rizvi gained attention after being signed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for ₹8.4 crore at the Indian Premier League 2024 auction. He began his IPL career impressively by hitting a six off the very first ball he faced, bowled by leg-spinner Rashid Khan.

He added another six in the same over, showing confidence against one of the leading white-ball bowlers in world cricket. Despite the promising start, Rizvi struggled to convert his chances and managed only 51 runs in five innings. CSK, five-time champions, released him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Delhi Capitals (DC) then placed their trust in the Meerut-born batter, signing him for ₹95 lakh. He repaid the faith with 121 runs in four innings at an impressive strike rate of 153.16. His breakthrough moment came with a blazing unbeaten 58 off 25 balls, his maiden IPL fifty, guiding DC to a six-wicket victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
