Punjab Kings’ struggle with the bat continued against Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL 2021. Deepak Hooda, who has looked in a good rhythm with the bat in the tournament so far, threw his wicket in a childish fashion after an error of judgement from temporary skipper Mayank Agarwal.
Punjab received a major blow after skipper KL Rahul was ruled out of IPL for an indefinite period after he was admitted to a hospital with acute appendicitis. Asked to bat first, Prabhsimran Singh struggled to get going and eventually gave away his wicket; however, Mayank Agarwal held his fort strong.
However, wickets continued to tumble from the other ends consistently after Chris Gayle and Dawid Malan failed to accelerate despite getting starts with the bat. Struggling at 87 for three, Punjab Kings wanted a big innings from their in-form batter Deepak Hooda but a comedy of errors cost his wicket.
Deepak Hooda gets runout after an error of judgement
Confusion and more confusion in the running between the wicket, helter-skelter running have led Punjab Kings to lose the plot. Mayank Agarwal punched one to the right of Shimron Hetmyer and started off for a quick single, while Deepak Hooda was ball-watching. He did start, but then stopped to see if Hetmyer had stopped the ball on the dive.
He did and so did Hooda, who was now running back, Mayank kept running, but was well behind his partner when Axar tipped the bails off. Both were running to the same end and both were short of their crease, but it was Deepak Hooda whose bat is in front of Mayank. So, it should be him who should be walking back to the pavilion.
