The cricket field witnessed an incredible spectacle, showcasing the unpredictable nature of the sport, with last-minute thrills for one team and heartbreaking shocks for the other. Amidst the uproar of cheers and tears of joy, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) women secured their place in the highly anticipated Final of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 by defeating the reigning champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in a nail-biting Eliminator clash.

As fans erupted into a frenzy of celebration, social media, particularly X (formerly known as Twitter), exploded with “Congratulations RCB” trending nationwide. A video from the Delhi metro stole the limelight, capturing jubilant fans chanting “RCB, RCB,” and “Perry, Perry” in honour of star batter Ellyse Perry, whose brilliant innings of 66 off 50 played a crucial role in RCB’s remarkable victory.

Despite posting a modest total of 135 runs, RCB remained confident, backed by a squad with a WPL trophy and a captain in scorching form. Their bowlers, however, produced magic, thwarting MI’s attempts and fulfilling the dreams of their passionate supporters, who eagerly await the final against Delhi Capitals on March 17.

Before the grand finale, celebrations have already begun, with the Delhi metro scene setting the stage for an electrifying conclusion. In the match, MI faced early challenges despite a promising start from openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews, followed by Nat Sciver-Brunt’s cameo. However, they seemed poised for victory until key wickets fell, including Harmanpreet Kaur’s dismissal.

With Sajeevan Sajana at the crease, MI pinned their hopes on her, but fate intervened as she was stumped. RCB captain Smriti Mandhana’s unconventional decision to entrust the final over to Asha Sobhana paid off as she dismissed Pooja Vastrakar, ending MI’s campaign for the season.
