Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik couldn’t hide his joy after grabbing a wicket during the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 match against Kuwait on Saturday, November 8. Although known for his batting versatility throughout his international career, the 40-year-old never managed to take a wicket in his 180 appearances for India.

Interestingly, Karthik had bowled just one over in T20Is, conceding 18 runs, but this time he delivered the penultimate over of Kuwait’s innings and struck success almost immediately. His seam-up medium-paced delivery forced batter Mohamed Shafeeq to miscue a shot, which was comfortably taken by Robin Uthappa behind the stumps.

Although Dinesh Karthik was never known for his bowling exploits in international cricket, the former wicketkeeper did roll his arm over occasionally in domestic competitions. He delivered as many as 20 overs in first-class matches and three overs in T20s, managing to claim a solitary wicket in the shorter format.

However, in the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 clash against Kuwait, despite picking up a wicket, Karthik was taken for 23 runs in his only over.

Dinesh Karthik’s India Side Endure Humiliating Defeat Against Kuwait

The Dinesh Karthik-led Indian team faced a shocking setback against Kuwait in the six-overs-a-side Hong Kong 2025 tournament. After edging out arch-rivals Pakistan in a thrilling opener on November 7, India stumbled to a 27-run loss in their second match against underdogs Kuwait.

Chasing a target of 107, India were dismissed for just 79 in 5.4 overs, with captain Dinesh Karthik managing only eight runs off four balls. Their disappointing form continued as they suffered another defeat, this time against the UAE. Despite posting a decent total of 107, India failed to defend it as the UAE clinched victory in the final over with one ball remaining.

India’s woes deepened in their third consecutive loss, coming against Nepal in the Bowl stage. Chasing a huge target of 138, India collapsed to 45 all out in just three overs, enduring a crushing 92-run defeat.
