[WATCH]- Drama At SCG As Mitchell Marsh Catches Shan Masood Off A No Ball And Later Dismisses The Pakistan Skipper

Mitchell Marsh played a significant role in the early action during the second session of Day 1 in Australia’s third Test against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Wednesday.

Choosing to bat first, Pakistan struggled at 47/4, but a recovery led by Shan Masood and Mohammad Rizwan was interrupted by Mitchell Marsh, who dismissed Masood for 32 with a probing delivery in the 26th over.

The Australian fast bowler delivered a well-placed off-stump length ball that moved away. Masood, a left-hander, cautiously attempted to guide it to third man but only succeeded in edging it.

Steve Smith secured the catch, prompting Marsh to celebrate, yet his joy turned to a wry smile when the umpire signaled a no-ball. Finally, the Australian team found relief. In the 30th over of Pakistan’s innings, Marsh delivered another well-placed off-stump length ball, causing Masood to defend.

However, Masood could only produce a clear edge, and Smith at second slip once again made a secure catch. Right after taking the wicket, Marsh playfully glanced back at the umpire.

His celebrations only commenced once it was verified that he hadn’t crossed the line this time. Masood was out for 35 from 70 deliveries, an innings featuring three boundaries. His dismissal added to Pakistan’s woes, bringing the score to 96/5.

Despite Mohammad Rizwan’s resilience, Pakistan faces challenges at the SCG

At Tea on Day 1 of the SCG Test, Pakistan found themselves in a disheartening situation at 199/6 after 48 overs. The team’s opening batsmen, Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub, faced early setbacks, getting dismissed for ducks to Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, respectively.

Ex-captain Babar Azam scored 26 runs before being lbw to Australian captain Pat Cummins. Saud Shakeel (5) was caught behind off Cummins as well.

Shan Masood and Mohammad Rizwan later formed a partnership of 49 runs for the fifth wicket before Mitchell Marsh dismissed the Pakistan captain. Rizwan delivered a noteworthy performance, smashing 10 boundaries and two sixes in his 88 off 103 deliveries.

He seemed poised to reach a century, but Cummins intervened once more. The Australian captain delivered a well-aimed short ball, causing Rizwan to mishit it to deep backward square leg.
