Former England captain Sir Alastair Cook humorously recreated India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant’s falling scoop shot from the recently concluded five-match Test series, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Cook mimicked the stylish shot while working as a commentator during the ongoing ‘The Hundred’ tournament.
The experienced 161-Test player also teased Pant, suggesting that the left-hander deliberately falls to appear ‘glamorous’ while explaining the technique. Former England Women’s captain and presenter Isa Guha asked Cook about this during a BBC Sport segment.
“What about the Rishabh Pant roly-ppoly ramp?”
Alastair Cook further replied:
“What he was doing was playing the paddle sweep, but what he wanted is more pace on the ball to get really in the lines. So, as he went down, he’d use the pace and then yes on TV, I’m going to roll over and make it look glamorous and hope it goes for four.”
“Well, I’m a bit old for that now, so I can’t do any more roly-polies,” he added.

Rishabh Pant’s Performance In The 2025 ENG vs IND Test Series
Rishabh Pant delivered an outstanding batting display in his four appearances during the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The Indian vice-captain piled up 479 runs in seven innings at an impressive average of 68.42, which included twin centuries at Headingley and three half-centuries.
His performance also saw him surpass former skipper MS Dhoni’s record for the most Test hundreds by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter, taking his tally to seven. However, Pant’s campaign was marred by injuries. A finger injury in the third Test at Lord’s forced Dhruv Jurel to take over wicketkeeping duties.
In the fourth Test, he hurt his foot attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes, prompting Jurel to step in again as a backup. The injuries eventually ruled Pant out of the fifth Test at The Oval. According to a Hindustan Times report, the 27-year-old is now expected to miss both the 2025 Asia Cup and the upcoming home Test series against the West Indies.
