[WATCH] Fan Enters Field And Touches Suryakumar Yadav’s Feet; His Gesture Draws Attention

Suryakumar Yadav, who led India to a T20 World Cup victory, has now been dropped from the Indian T20 team. He has been removed not only from the captaincy role but also from the squad, with selectors reportedly considering his form over the past two years and future plans. He is currently playing in the T20 Mumbai League, where he is captaining Triumph Knights MNE.

During a match on June 9, a fan ran onto the field and touched Suryakumar’s feet, a video of which has gone viral. The incident took place during the game against Eagle Thane Strikers while he was batting. The fan rushed towards him, touched his feet, and even hugged him.

After being escorted away by the umpire, Suryakumar called him back when he asked for a selfie and clicked a picture with him. Watch the video here:

In the match between Eagle Thane Strikers and Triumph Knights, Suryakumar Yadav’s team suffered a defeat. Batting first, the Thane side posted a strong total of 172 runs, powered by Sairaj Patil’s 69-run knock. In reply, Triumph Knights were bowled out for 148 runs.

After scoring brilliantly in the previous two matches, Suryakumar was dismissed for 20 runs in the latest game. Meanwhile, reports also suggest that Shreyas Iyer will now lead India’s T20 team following changes in leadership.

Why Shreyas Iyer Emerged as a Strong Choice for T20I Captaincy?

Shreyas Iyer’s appointment as India’s T20I captain is notable for several unusual factors. Since his last appearance in the format in December 2023, India have gone on to win two T20 World Cups and completed an entire cycle under Suryakumar Yadav, who also led them to a successful title defence in March.

It is rare for India to assign T20I captaincy to a player who has been out of the side for such a long period. However, chief selector Ajit Agarkar strongly backed Iyer on Saturday, handing him leadership of a squad that now has a clear two-year path leading up to the next T20 World Cup and the LA Olympics.

“I don’t have to change my personality,” Iyer said in Mumbai in his first public reaction to the appointment. “I have to be the same person I was before, and not try to be someone else or be under someone’s shadow.”

Shreyas Iyer has shown strong leadership qualities over the years. He first gained attention in 2018 when he took over the Delhi Daredevils captaincy mid-season and impressed with a standout debut as skipper in the IPL.

Since then, he has built an impressive captaincy record, including leading Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title, captaining Punjab Kings, guiding Mumbai in domestic cricket, and winning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2024–25. These experiences have made him well-prepared for international leadership.
