A fan’s poster from Day 5 of the first Test between England and India has grabbed widespread attention online. England secured a five-wicket win after successfully chasing 371 runs on a dramatic final day at Headingley, Leeds. Amid the action, cameras captured a spectator in the stands holding a sign that read:
“A bad day of cricket is better than a good day at work.”

The fan’s poster might have been a comment on India’s showing on the final day. With England resuming at 21/0, India faced the challenge of defending 350 runs with all ten English wickets still in hand. The Indian bowlers worked hard throughout the day to defend the target. Despite their efforts, England chased down the total with five wickets in hand.
Zak Crawley scored 65, while Ben Duckett played a brilliant knock of 149. Joe Root (53*) and Jamie Smith (44*) ensured a smooth finish for the hosts. India’s bowlers struggled to create consistent pressure, and the fielding didn’t offer much support. Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur took two wickets each, while Ravindra Jadeja claimed one.
India Aim For Strong Comeback In Second Test
After losing the first Test of the five-match series, the spotlight is now firmly on the Indian team as they prepare for the second game. With eight days to go before the next Test, the players will have some time to rest and regroup. Despite the loss, there were some positives for India.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant scored centuries in the first innings, while Jasprit Bumrah took a five-wicket haul. KL Rahul and Pant added more runs with centuries in the second innings. However, the rest of the batting and bowling units underperformed, raising several concerns ahead of the next match.
India’s batting collapsed in both innings, which proved costly, and their fielding efforts were disappointing, with multiple dropped catches. The second Test is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, July 2, at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
