Team India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir arrived in Ranchi on Friday, November 28, ahead of the ODI series opener against South Africa. He traveled separately from the squad, as most players, along with assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, had reached the city a day earlier. The Indian team landed in Ranchi following the conclusion of the two-match Test series against the Proteas.

Senior players, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, have also arrived and started practising for the opening ODI. In a video shared on the Instagram page ‘Ranchi Updates,’ Gambhir was seen leaving the airport under tight security.

Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has come under scrutiny following India’s 0-2 Test series defeat to South Africa. Attention now turns to white-ball cricket as both teams prepare for a three-match ODI series followed by a five-match T20I series. Meanwhile, former captain MS Dhoni hosted a special dinner at his Ranchi farmhouse for Team India players on Thursday.

Stars like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Ruturaj Gaikwad attended the dinner. Dhoni was also seen personally driving Kohli back to the team hotel afterward. The ODI series is set to begin at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Sunday, November 30.

“Dropping the coach isn’t the answer”- Former spinner backs Gambhir after IND vs SA Tests

Murali Kartik defended Gautam Gambhir amid criticism over India’s South Africa losses, citing the Champions Trophy win and England Test series draw, and opposed calls for his removal as head coach.

“There is a lot of pressure on poor Gambhir. But this is the same coach under whom you won the Champions Trophy and drawn in England. Yet, only two series won out of six and that was against Bangladesh and the West Indies so the pressure is mounting. When we lost 0-3 to New Zealand, we had Virat, Rohit and Ashwin and didn’t fare well. We didn’t play well at all.”
