Hanuma Vihari: The defending Champions Madhya Pradesh defeated Andhra Pradesh by 5 wickets in the 3rd quarterfinals match played at Holkar Stadium, Indore on 3 February 2023.

Andhra Pradesh captain Hanuma Vihari suffered fracture on his forearm in the first innings on day 2. He came to bat after the fall of the 9th wicket and looked impressive batted left-handed which helped AP post 379 runs in the first innings.

Prithvi Raj’s brilliant spell of 5 for 26, K V Sasikanth 3 wickets helped Andhra Pradesh bowled out Madhya Pradesh for 228. AP took a decent lead of 151 runs in the first innings. Madhya Pradesh bowlers showed their fightback putting Andhra Pradesh batters on backfoot with discipline lines and lengths.

Madhya Pradesh reduced Andhra Pradesh to 76 for 9 in the second innings. Hanuma Vihari came to the bat with AP struggling. He batted with one hand and contributed 15 runs off 16 deliveries. It was a remarkable effort by the Andhra Pradesh captain showing great courage and fighting to bat on with pain. Vihari was the last batter to be dismissed as MP skittled out Andhra Pradesh for just 93.

Avesh Khan was the pick of bowlers for Madhya Pradesh in the 2nd innings with 4 for 24, Gaurav Yadav 3 for 10, Kumar Kartikeya 2 for 10, and Saransh Jain 1 for 11. Vihari’s fight in the match against Madhya Pradesh reminded of the fight he displayed during the 2nd innings of the 3rd Test match against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground, SCG.

Vihari had a torn muscle and could not run. He and Ashwin fought it hard to register a historic draw as the series remained level at 1-1. Madhya Pradesh progressed into the semi-finals of the 2022/23 Ranji Trophy season. They will take on Bengal starting from 8th February onwards.

It was a superb performance by Vihari who was taken off the field after being hit by Avesh Khan. Andhra Pradesh was looking for a decent score before Madhya Pradesh made a strong comeback to pick wickets at regular intervals to bowl out Andhra Pradesh for 379.
