Team India skipper Rohit Sharma failed to make much of an impact against Pakistan in their opening clash of the 2022 T20 World Cup on Sunday, October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He was dismissed early by pacer Haris Rauf, pushing India on the backfoot in the second innings.

Pakistan put on 159 runs on the board, after being asked to bat first. In response, Team India openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul walked out to chase the total. However, the duo could not last long at the crease and were sent back to the hut early. Naseem Shah bowled KL Rahul for just four runs in the second over of the innings.

Soon Rohit Sharma also followed his opening partner to the pavilion. In the fourth over, Haris Rauf bowled a ripper to get rid of the Indian skipper. He bowled a good length delivery at 145kph to Rohit, who tentatively defended the delivery. His feet went nowhere as he edged the delivery, to Iftikhar Ahmed at first slip. Iftikhar took a brilliant low catch, to end the Indian skipper’s stay at the crease for just four runs.

Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandya shine for India with the ball

Earlier in the match, Team India bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya pulled off a great performance with the ball. The duo picked three wickets each to restrict Pakistan to 159 runs. Arshdeep conceded thirty-two runs in his four overs, while Hardik gave away just 30 runs.

Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed slammed fifties each to take Pakistan to a respectable total. Meanwhile, India has four wickets for just 31 runs on board, in just over 6 overs. Along with the two openers, Suryakumar Yadav and Axar Patel are also back in the hut for Team India. Virat Kohli is at the crease with all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
