[WATCH]- Heartwarming Moment: England Bowler Checks On Pigeon Hit During ENG vs WI 3rd ODI

England fast bowler Matthew Potts showed concern for a pigeon that was accidentally hit by a shot from a West Indies batter during the third ODI at The Oval on Tuesday. Positioned at deep cover, Potts approached the bird and attempted to gently pick it up after it was struck. The unusual incident took place in the 29th over, with leg-spinner Adil Rashid in action.

Gudakesh Motie played a shot through the cover region, sending the ball through a group of pigeons resting on the outfield. One unfortunate bird was hit, prompting Potts to check on it. As he reached down, the pigeon quickly flew away, seemingly unharmed. The moment sparked amusement among the commentators.

The ODI had an eventful beginning, with the toss being delayed because the West Indies team was caught in traffic on their way to the ground. Meanwhile, the England players arrived at the venue by riding bicycles, adding a unique touch to the pre-match scenes.

Matthew Potts Shines With Two Wickets As England Contain West Indies To 251 In 40 Overs

Matthew Potts, Saqib Mahmood, and Brydon Carse each contributed with two wickets in the first innings, while Adil Rashid stood out as the most effective bowler, returning figures of 3 for 40 from his 8 overs. After England skipper Harry Brook opted to field first, the match was reduced to 40 overs per side due to a lengthy rain delay.

Sherfane Rutherford led the scoring for the West Indies with a solid 70, supported by valuable knocks from Gudakesh Motie (63) and Alzarri Joseph (41), helping their team post a total of 251/9. England, having already secured the series with a dominant 238-run win in the first ODI and a close three-wicket win in the second, began their chase confidently.

The hosts made a strong start in pursuit of the 252-run target, though they lost Jamie Smith, who played a blistering knock of 64 off just 28 balls, featuring 10 boundaries and 3 sixes to give England the early momentum.
