Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Shimron Hetmyer showed great courage with a full-stretch dive to dismiss Gujarat Titans (GT) all-rounder Washington Sundar at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday, April 28. In a tense moment with three fielders converging under a skier, Hetmyer avoided a collision with Yudhvir Singh Charak and completed a superb catch.
After being asked to bat first, GT had dominated most of their innings and were eyeing a strong finish. Washington Sundar walked in at No.4 following captain Shubman Gill’s dismissal in the 17th over. Sundar made an early impact by hitting a six off Jofra Archer. However, as the innings neared its end and with momentum slowing slightly, Sundar needed to accelerate.
In the penultimate over bowled by Sandeep Sharma, he attempted a big shot over the off side off a slower ball, managing height but not distance. Initially, it looked like the ball would land safely in no-man’s land, but its prolonged hang time gave multiple fielders a chance to reach it.
Both cover and long-off charged toward the ball, and with everyone’s focus on it, the possibility of a dangerous collision was high. Despite the pressure, Shimron Hetmyer stayed committed to the catch. Yudhvir Singh Charak, running back from the fieldinfield, recognized Hetmyer’s better position and veered off at the last moment.
Undeterred by the presence of another fielder nearby, Hetmyer launched into a low dive and completed a stunning catch. You can watch the video here:

Hetmyer Drops Easy Catch to Hand Sudharsan a Lifeline Early in the Innings
While the Caribbean star successfully took a difficult catch later on, he had earlier missed a straightforward opportunity. In the second over of the innings, off Maheesh Theekshana’s bowling, he dropped a catch at cover.
Sai Sudharsan had struck a firm drive directly to Hetmyer inside the circle, but the fielder failed to grab it. At that point, Sudharsan was on just 9 runs. The missed chance proved costly, as the IPL 2025 Orange Cap holder added 30 more runs and played a vital role in a 93-run opening partnership.
