India secured a thrilling two-wicket victory against Australia in the first T20I in Visakhapatnam on November 23. With this win, the home team claimed a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

In the pursuit of 209 runs, captain Suryakumar Yadav played a pivotal role, scoring 80 runs off 42 balls, featuring four sixes and nine boundaries.

Ishan Kishan contributed with 58 runs from 39 deliveries, including five sixes and two fours. Their partnership of 112 runs rescued the Men in Blue from a challenging situation at 22/2.

Rinku Singh added the final touches, making 22 off 14 with four boundaries. In a crucial moment, he hit a six off the last delivery when the scores were tied, but it was deemed a no-ball, securing the victory for the hosts.

In the first innings, Australia set a total of 208/3 in 20 overs. Josh Inglis notched up a century, making 110 off 50 with eight sixes and 11 boundaries. Steve Smith contributed 52 off 41, featuring eight boundaries.

“Was great to see Rinku” – Suryakumar Yadav commends Rinku Singh in the aftermath of India’s victory against Australia

Suryakumar Yadav expressed his joy at witnessing his team successfully chase a target exceeding 200 in his inaugural game as captain. The skipper specifically praised Rinku Singh for his adept finishing skills after India’s triumph.

He mentioned in the post-match interview:

“Was great to see Rinku, the situation was tailor-made for him. He was calm and collected, calmed me down a little bit. Incredible achievement from the bowlers to restrict them to this total after the 16th over.”

He added:

“Very happy with the way the boys played. Was very happy with their energy, we were put under pressure, but the way everyone showed up was amazing.”

”It’s a proud moment, very proud moment, every time you play, you think about representing India, but coming out here and captaining India is a big moment.”

Suryakumar Yadav’s team is set to take on Australia in the second T20I at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, November 26.
