Yashasvi Jaiswal made a breathtaking impression on his ODI debut opposite England in Nagpur, despite his underwhelming batting performance. The young Indian batter could only muster 15 runs off 22 balls, but everybody was left speechless after seeing his jaw-dropping catch in the 10th over.

Jaiswal ran 20 yards backward to take the catch of Ben Duckett off Harshit Rana, diving and sliding as he did. The catch elicited parallels with Travis Head’s famous catch in the ODI World Cup 2023 final.

BCCI captured the reaction from the Indian camp: Axar Patel, Harshit Rana, and fielding coach T. Dilip commending Jaiswal’s athleticism and agility.

BCCI’s video showed the team’s reaction and excitement after seeing Jaiswal’s catch. His great catch will be remembered more than his batting exploits on ODIs in Nagpur. Jaiswal has set the stage for his international career with this catch, and Jaiswal’s fans can expect many more such shows from him in the times to come.

The Indian team’s post-match reaction to Jaiswal’s catch was amusing. After making the grab, Axar Patel joked, “If he had run faster like me, he could have grabbed this catch with both hands, though it was still a really good effort and a very nice catch.”

He further reacted again, but not in a humorous way. “I was standing near Jaiswal, so I saw the whole catch. When he was running, I thought he wouldn’t be able to take it, but when he stretched his body, made an angle, and dived, it was really nice to see. It was a fantastic catch.”

India won the opening game by four wickets thanks to the scores of Shubman Gill (87), Shreyas Iyer (59), and Axar Patel (52). India easily defeated England in 38.4 overs after chasing their 248.
