Team India’s batter Tilak Varma showcased incredible athleticism with a stunning save to stop a six in the second ODI against South Africa in Raipur. Although he wasn’t part of the playing XI, the young cricketer gave his best on the field, saving crucial runs. The moment came in the 20th over, bowled by left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav.
A well-set Aiden Markram aimed a powerful shot toward long-on, seemingly destined for a six. Tilak, however, took the catch and, noticing he was heading over the boundary, threw the ball back inside the field. The third umpire confirmed that his feet had not crossed the line. Here’s the video of the Hyderabad-born player’s remarkable save:

The left-handed batter has featured in four ODIs so far, making his 50-over international debut during the Asia Cup 2023. However, opportunities have been limited, with the team management opting to play Ruturaj Gaikwad at the crucial number four spot.
While Gaikwad struggled in the first ODI, he bounced back with a blazing 105 in the second, helping India post a strong total of 358/5 in their 50 overs. At the time of writing, South Africa were 201/3 in a challenging run-chase, with Dewald Brevis and Matthew Breetzke at the crease.

Tilak Varma is set to feature in the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa, starting December 9 at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. This series holds significant importance for the Men in Blue as they prepare to defend their World Cup title, scheduled from February 7 to March 8.
India will also face New Zealand in a five-match T20I series in January 2026. The left-handed batter boasts an impressive T20I record, scoring 996 runs in 47 matches at an average of 47.42 and a strike rate of 146.68, including two centuries and four fifties.
