Yashasvi Jaiswal fell short of a well-earned century on Day 2 (Friday, December 27) of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia in Melbourne. The left-handed batter was dismissed for 82 runs off 117 balls due to a reckless run out.
The dismissal occurred in the 41st over of India’s first innings. Scott Boland bowled a full-length delivery on off, which Jaiswal played straight to mid-on before attempting a run. Virat Kohli, at the non-striker’s end, stayed put, leaving Jaiswal too far down the pitch.
Pat Cummins, the fielder, missed the stumps at the striker’s end, but wicketkeeper Alex Carey gathered the ball and completed the run-out. Jaiswal had no chance to return, visibly frustrated as he walked back to the pavilion while the Australians celebrated.

Australia dismissed the set Jaiswal and Kohli just before stumps on Day 2
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli’s dismissals helped Australia stage a comeback in the third session on Day 2. Kohli was caught behind for the third time in five innings, this time off Scott Boland, for 36 runs off 86 balls.
At stumps on Day 2, India was 164/5, with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease, trailing by 310 runs. Akash Deep, the night watchman, was dismissed for a duck, while Australia’s Pat Cummins and Scott Boland took two wickets each.
Batting first, Australia posted 474 runs, with Steve Smith leading the charge, scoring 140 off 197 balls. The top three all contributed fifties. Jasprit Bumrah was the standout bowler, taking 4/99, while Ravindra Jadeja and Akash Deep claimed three and two wickets, respectively.
The five-match series is currently tied 1-1. India won the first Test by 295 runs in Perth, but Australia responded with a 10-wicket victory in the second Test in Adelaide. The third Test ended in a rain-affected draw.
