Bangladesh batter Jaker Ali registered his second ODI half-century during their 2025 Champions Trophy opener against India in Dubai on Thursday, February 20. The 26-year-old marked the milestone with the iconic ‘Pushpa’ celebration.

Coming in to bat at 35/5 after Bangladesh was put in to bat first, Ali displayed remarkable composure under pressure. He built a crucial 154-run partnership for the sixth wicket alongside Towhid Hridoy.

Ali reached his fifty in the 37th over, taking a double off Kuldeep Yadav with a well-placed shot. To celebrate, he used his bat to mimic the famous ‘Pushpa’ gesture inspired by Indian film star Allu Arjun, delighting fans with his entertaining antics.

Jaker Ali‘s resilient innings concluded in the 43rd over as he was dismissed by Mohammed Shami after scoring 68 off 114 balls. As of the latest update, Bangladesh stood at 192/6 after 44 overs, with Towhid Hridoy unbeaten on 86 and Rishad Hossain yet to open his account.

Shami has been the standout bowler with three wickets, while Axar Patel and Harshit Rana have taken two and one wickets, respectively.

Jaker Ali survives golden duck scare in IND vs BAN clash

India’s left-arm spinner Axar Patel caused trouble for Bangladesh in the ninth over, taking two wickets in successive deliveries by dismissing Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim. Jaker Ali then faced the hat-trick ball as Axar delivered a length ball outside off-stump.

Attempting a forward defense, Ali edged it straight to Rohit Sharma at slip. However, the Indian skipper failed to hold onto a straightforward catch, giving Ali a crucial lifeline.

Frustrated by the drop, Sharma expressed his disappointment and even folded his hands in apology to Axar. Ali made full use of the opportunity, playing a crucial innings under pressure for his team.
