Ace India speedster Jasprit Bumrah struck right away, removing Quinton de Kock in his opening over during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 Group 1 encounter against South Africa. The match is underway on Sunday, February 22, at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
The breakthrough came on the second-to-last delivery of the Proteas’ second over. Bumrah fired in a 137 km/h back-of-a-length nip-backer that jagged in sharply. De Kock attempted an aggressive swing but failed to make contact, as the ball crashed into his stumps. You can watch the video here:

Arshdeep Singh Strikes Alongside Jasprit Bumrah As South Africa Lose Both Openers
Aiden Markram, leading South Africa, won the toss and opted to bat first. The Proteas brought in David Miller, Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi, and Keshav Maharaj, replacing Jason Smith, George Linde, Anrich Nortje, and Kwena Maphaka. India, meanwhile, stuck with the same XI, though vice-captain Axar Patel was once again not included.
Despite South Africa’s decision to bat, it was India who made early inroads. Jasprit Bumrah removed Quinton de Kock for six in the second over, before Arshdeep Singh struck in the following over to dismiss Markram for four, reducing the Proteas to 12/2.
At the time of writing, South Africa were 19/2 after three overs, with Ryan Rickelton (7) and Dewald Brevis (1) at the crease.
Playing XI of both teams:
South Africa: Aiden Markram (c), Quinton de Kock (wicket-keeper), Ryan Rickelton, Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Corbin Bosch, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, and Lungi Ngidi.
