Team India have bounced back late in the first session of the first Test as Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah struck twice to put the hosts on top at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Incidentally, this was Bumrah’s first Test wicket at home.

Meanwhile, England got off to a brilliant start after Joe Root opted to bat first after winning the toss in Chennai. Rory Burns and Dominic Sibley grinded it out against the new ball to keep Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah at bay.

The right-hand left-hand combination rotated the strike well to bring England first 50-run opening partnership in ten innings including the Sri Lanka series. Just when things looked like England will go to lunch with their fort unrattled, Rory Burns played a rash shot against the run of play to gift Ravichandran Ashwin his first wicket of the Test.

Meanwhile, most captains would have been tempted to keep Ravichandran Ashwin going against the inexperienced Lawrence after he removed Rory Burns. But Virat Kohli knowns for his antics brought back his ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah and he delivered.

This was so plumb that Bumrah started celebrating as the ball struck the pad and just turned around to get a confirmation from umpire Nitin Menon. This was a ripper of a delivery – full, fast, and tailing into the right-hander who misses the length completely. There was a tinge of reverse swing in the delivery which undid the batsman.

From 63 for no loss, England were suddenly at 63 for two with Dan Lawrence walking back to the hut for a duck as India bounced back in the game.
