Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant

Indian captain Rohit Sharma and star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant have a strong bond both on and off the field. This was evident in a viral video featuring the two players and others who were preparing to travel to the West Indies and the USA for the T20 World Cup next month.

Before the team departed, a cake-cutting ceremony took place, during which Pant attempted to feed Rohit a piece of cake. Rohit declined, replying:

“Jeetne ke baad khaaenge, khaana nahi ye (We will eat after winning the trophy. Don’t eat it now).”

Rohit Sharma’s remark brought a smile to Rishabh Pant’s face, which is understandable considering how much both players and the rest of the team are eager to win the cup. India hasn’t won the T20 World Cup since its first edition in 2007.

Rishabh Pant shares his anticipation for the upcoming T20 World Cup

Following a severe car accident in December 2022, Rishabh Pant underwent an extensive rehabilitation program, taking nearly 15 months to return to competitive cricket. He openly expressed doubts about his ability to play again, but now finds himself included in India’s 15-member T20 World Cup squad.

On Saturday, Pant shared a photo of himself with teammates Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and others, including a couple of coaching staff members. Expressing his enthusiasm, here’s what the left-handed batsman wrote on X:

“Back with the blues”

Pant made a remarkable comeback to competitive cricket with the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. He accumulated 446 runs in 13 matches at an average of 40.55 and a strike rate of 155.40, including three half-centuries. It remains to be seen if he can revitalize his T20I career with an outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup.
