Jitesh Sharma’s quick thinking helped India dismiss the dangerous Quinton de Kock in the second T20I against South Africa in Mullanpur on Thursday, December 11. The wicketkeeper-batter ran out de Kock for 90 off 46 balls, which featured seven sixes and five fours. With that wicket, Varun Chakaravarthy brought the Proteas’ score down to 156/3.
The dismissal occurred in the 16th over of South Africa’s innings. Chakaravarthy bowled a flatter delivery outside off, and de Kock edged it towards the keeper while stepping out of his crease. Jitesh reacted instantly, collecting the ball and removing the bails to deny the southpaw his second T20I century. The BCCI shared the video on X, captioning it:

De Kock Stars As SA Dominate, Chakaravarthy Shines For India
A superb batting performance from Quinton de Kock guided South Africa to 213/4 against India in the second T20I. Apart from de Kock, captain Aiden Markram contributed 29 runs off 26 balls. Later, Donovan Ferreira and David Miller provided the finishing touches, scoring unbeaten 30* (16) and 20* (12), respectively, to help the Proteas post a competitive total.
For India, Varun Chakaravarthy was the standout with the ball, returning figures of 2/29 in his four overs. Arshdeep Singh, however, was the most expensive bowler, conceding 54 runs in his four overs, including seven wides in his third. India had won the series opener in Cuttack by 101 runs, reducing South Africa to 74 while chasing 176.
The tourists will now aim to bounce back and level the series 1-1, while the Suryakumar Yadav-led side looks to continue its winning momentum. The Men in Blue have not lost a T20I series since their 2024 T20 World Cup triumph, including a 2-1 series victory over Australia. In contrast, the Proteas were beaten 1-2 by Pakistan in their previous series.
