Besides, it was a thrilling Test game in London, as the cricketing world witnessed a fall of 17 wickets, on day 1. New Zealand (NZ), batting first, was knocked down by England (ENG) pacers as the Kiwi side put a needy total of 132, all out. Colin De Grandhomme was the highest run-scorer for his side; he notched 42* runs off 50 deliveries. For England, James Anderson and debutant Matthew Potts captured four wickets each.

In reply, England did seem well, in control, as the openers Alex Lees and Zak Crawley built a 59-run stand. But later on, it all appeared the same as before. NZ wrapped England’s innings at a score of 141. Tim Southee achieved a four-wicket haul.

NZ then started their second innings, on day 2. After the top order’s collapse, Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell stood up for a 195 run-stand. Mitchell hit a ton, while Blundell had to walk away at a score of 96. Stuart Broad and Potts again picked 3 wickets each. NZ managed to put on a total of 285 for all out.

Finally, chasing the target of 277, England was not looking well, as they kept losing wickets after every interval. Although, Joe Root and skipper Ben Stokes evolved to be the saviors of their side; both built a partnership of 90 runs.

Stokes fell after scoring a fifty, but Root, assisted by Ben Foakes, went on for the triumph; both together composed a coalition of  120 runs, ending up in the winning cause. Meanwhile, Kyle Jamieson picked 4 wickets, for his side.
