[Watch]- Joe Root Reverse Scoops Tim Southee Over Slips For A Six
Joe Root

Joe Root, who barely plays unconventional cricketing shots, was seen smashing a six off Tim Southee’s delivery, on the fourth day of the second Test of the ongoing New Zealand tour of England, in Nottingham.

Before Day 4 started, the former England skipper had told Sky Sports: “As current players of the game, we have the ability to rewrite the coaching manual.”

On the first ball of the 116th over of England’s first innings, Root reverse scooped Southee for a six over third man. To play the outrageous shot, Root changed his stance and just smashed it. His shot amazed everyone in the crowd.

Despite his extraordinary batting abilities, Root is certainly not famous for playing out-of-the-box shots. On the morning of Day 4, England was trailing by 80 runs, Root then was trying to put on the aggressive batting tactics, in response to New Zealand’s massive first-innings total of 553.

Reviewing the shot, BBC commentators Jonathan Agnew and Sir Alastair Cook were amazed by Root’s first six of his innings. Agnew, with the same wonder, stated: “What sort of shot is that!”

Meanwhile, Root couldn’t go on to complete his sixth double century in the format, after his 27th Test ton. He fell for a slower delivery from Trent Boult and Southee, at covers, caught the English great. Root scored 176 runs in 211 deliveries, his second ton in the series, with 26 fours and a six.

Besides, New Zealand then, bowled out the hosts for 539 runs, leading by 14 runs. The first session of the day is over, with New Zealand at a score of 27 for one. James Anderson has dismissed Tom Latham, now. And, the Trent Bridge crowd can expect another summer thriller.
