[WATCH]- Keshav Maharaj Breaks India’s Opening Stand, Dismisses KL Rahul For 22 In 2nd Test vs SA 2025

South Africa’s lead spinner Keshav Maharaj claimed the key wicket of KL Rahul on Day 3 of the second Test against India at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Monday, November 24. Maharaj’s dismissal ended the 65-run opening partnership between Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The right-handed batter scored 22 runs off 63 balls before departing.

The breakthrough came in the 22nd over of India’s first innings. Maharaj bowled a fuller-length delivery outside off-stump, a slower ball that turned away sharply and gained extra bounce. Rahul advanced to defend but edged the ball off the shoulder of the bat, allowing Aiden Markram to complete a sharp low catch at first slip.

Yashasvi Jaiswal & KL Rahul Provide India A Solid Start After South Africa Post 489

Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul gave India a promising start in their first innings after South Africa posted a massive 489 in their first essay. At the time of reporting, India were 86/1, with Jaiswal on 51 and Sai Sudharsan contributing 12 runs. On Day 2, the Proteas were dismissed for 489 in 151.1 overs.

Senuran Muthusamy was the standout performer for South Africa, scoring 109 runs off 206 balls, including two sixes and 10 boundaries. Marco Jansen narrowly missed out on a century, making 93 off 91 deliveries with seven sixes and six boundaries. Tristan Stubbs, Kyle Verreynne, and captain Temba Bavuma also made valuable contributions with scores in the 40s.

Openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton added 30s to the total. For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the top wicket-taker, claiming 4/115, while Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets each. South Africa lead the two-match Test series 1-0 after winning the series opener by 30 runs in Kolkata.

They are aiming to secure their first-ever Test series win in India since 1999/2000. India, meanwhile, will look to bounce back and level the series 1-1, while also hoping to avoid another home series defeat following the 0-3 loss to New Zealand last year.
