The star Indian batting pair of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who have been sidelined due to injuries, was recently seen practising in the nets at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) ahead of India’s team selection for the upcoming continental event. These two players hold significant roles in India’s plans for the ODI World Cup 2023.
In a positive update for Team India, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who have been absent from action for an extended period and will also miss the T201 series against Ireland, were observed honing their skills at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
This duo, known for their right-handed batting prowess, underwent surgical procedures earlier this year due to injuries sustained during their play. While their participation in the important tournament was initially uncertain, the circulating videos suggest a positive turn of events.

It is anticipated that the pair will undergo fitness evaluations in the upcoming days to determine their readiness for the Asia Cup 2023, set to commence on August 30. Passing these tests would not only secure their spots in the squad but also in the playing XI.
KL Rahul, who has served as India’s primary wicketkeeper-batsman in ODIs, and Shreyas Iyer, known for his impressive batting performances at the No. 4 position, have both been pivotal to the team’s strategies.
While KL Rahul’s absence prompted the team management to explore options like Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, and Ishan Kishan in ODIs, none of these players managed to consistently leave a mark with their performances.

On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer last participated in a competitive match during the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, while KL Rahul’s injury occurred during a match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore in May.
As Team India eagerly awaits the return of these formidable batsmen, their successful recovery and fitness clearance would significantly boost the team’s prospects in the upcoming Asia Cup and subsequent tournaments.
