Senior India batter KL Rahul delivered a top-class performance for Karnataka in their 2025–26 Ranji Trophy quarter-final chase against the formidable Mumbai side. Set an imposing target of 325 in a match that began with a low-scoring first innings, the opener rose to the occasion, bringing up a superb century on Day 4.
Mumbai responded emphatically in the second innings, piling up 377 after being bundled out for just 120 on the opening day. Karnataka’s pursuit got off to a shaky start when Mayank Agarwal was dismissed for three in the third over by Shardul Thakur.
Rahul then steadied the innings alongside skipper Devdutt Padikkal, who was in fine touch, before the stand was ended by a brilliant catch from Yashasvi Jaiswal. Further trouble followed as Karun Nair was adjudged LBW for 13 by Thakur, leaving Karnataka in a precarious position at 119 for 3.
However, as the aggressive Smaran Ravichandran took the attack to the bowlers and unsettled the fielding side, KL Rahul remained composed at the other end, steadily progressing towards the 24th first-class century of his career.
He reached the landmark in fortuitous fashion, edging a delivery from off-spinner Tanush Kotian past the stumps for a boundary, with the ball narrowly missing the timber after taking a thick inside edge. You can watch the video here:
