India captain KL Rahul set the tone in the series opener against South Africa at JSCA Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday, November 30. The wicketkeeper-batter showcased his flair by dispatching a ramp shot for six in the penultimate over bowled by Marco Jansen. The audacious stroke came on the fourth delivery of the 49th over.

KL Rahul scored 60 runs from 56 deliveries, including three sixes and two boundaries. The 33-year-old was finding it difficult, sitting at 29 off 40 balls after 44 overs, before changing the momentum with two consecutive sixes off Nandre Burger in the following over.

India posts 350 against South Africa in 1st ODI with Kohli, Rahul, and Rohit starring

A commanding batting performance from Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Rohit Sharma propelled India to 349/8 in their 50 overs. Kohli led the charge with a brilliant 135 off 120 balls, hitting seven sixes and 11 fours. Rahul contributed 60 runs off 56 balls, while Rohit added 57 off 51. Ravindra Jadeja also made a useful contribution with 32 runs from 20 balls.

In contrast, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Washington Sundar struggled, scoring 18 (16), 8 (14), and 13 (19) runs, respectively. For South Africa, Marco Jansen, Nandre Burger, Corbin Bosch, and Ottneil Baartman took two wickets each. With Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj rested for the ODI series, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, and Harshit Rana will be expected to step up.

India will aim for back-to-back wins over the Proteas in Ranchi, having last defeated them there by seven wickets in 2022. The Men in Blue have won their previous two ODI series against South Africa, who have not won in India since their 3-2 series win in 2015-16
