The iconic duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli featured again in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy group stage, but their performances were at opposite ends of the spectrum. While Kohli extended his remarkable streak with his sixth consecutive fifty, Rohit was dismissed for a golden duck.
After his explosive 155 in Mumbai’s comfortable win over Sikkim in Jaipur, Rohit failed to replicate that form against Uttarakhand. Attempting his signature pull shot, he found a fielder in the deep, leaving the packed stadium stunned. Kohli, however, looked in sublime touch from the start, maintaining his aggressive style.
Coming in early once again after Priyansh Arya’s dismissal in the second over, the No.3 batter relied heavily on boundaries to dominate the powerplay. He reached his fifty in just 29 balls, while other batters struggled at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
The right-hander eventually scored 77 before being stumped by Urvil Patel off Vishal Jayswal’s bowling in the 22nd over. This marked his first dismissal in this manner in List A cricket since the second ODI against New Zealand in Raipur in early 2023.
Out of his 77 runs, 58 came from boundaries, giving him a strike rate of 126.23. On his recent return to domestic white-ball cricket, Kohli had earlier scored 131 off 101 deliveries to help Delhi chase 299 in 37.4 overs.
Kohli and Rohit Set To Make International Comeback In India vs New Zealand 2026 ODIs
The seasoned pair’s performances in domestic cricket act as perfect preparation for Team India’s upcoming three-match ODI series at home against New Zealand. Although the selectors have not officially announced the squad, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are expected to retain their spots following their recent impressive displays for both state and country.
The ODI series is set to begin on January 11 in Vadodara.
