Virat Kohli sealed India’s nine-wicket victory over Australia in the third ODI at Sydney on Saturday, October 25. The right-handed batter struck a boundary in the 39th over to complete the run chase, giving India a comfortable win with 11.3 overs remaining. Facing a short delivery outside off from Nathan Ellis, Kohli skillfully adjusted his shot, opening the bat face at the last moment to guide the ball past deep third man.

The 36-year-old calmly watched the ball race to the boundary. After the shot, Kohli shared a brief hug and conversation with Rohit Sharma as India secured a morale-boosting win in the final match of the series. You can watch the video here:

Kohli remained unbeaten on 74 from 81 deliveries, including seven boundaries. The innings marked a return to form after he had been dismissed for two ducks in the previous matches at Perth and Adelaide. During this knock, he also surpassed Kumar Sangakkara to become the second-highest run-scorer in ODI cricket.

Rohit Sharma continued his excellent form, scoring an unbeaten 121 off 125 balls to guide India to victory in the third and final ODI against Australia. The right-hander struck three sixes and 13 boundaries, marking his ninth ODI century against Australia, the most by a visiting batter Down Under, and his 33rd overall in the format.

Rohit and Virat Kohli also put together a record 150-plus partnership, equalling the joint-most 150+ stands with Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly (12). Skipper Shubman Gill contributed a quick 24 off 26 deliveries, while Josh Hazlewood claimed the only Australian wicket. Earlier, Australia were restricted to 236 in 46.4 overs.

Harshit Rana starred with the ball, taking 4/39, supported by Washington Sundar’s two wickets. For Australia, Matt Renshaw scored 56 off 58 balls, and captain Mitchell Marsh added 41 from 50 deliveries. Despite the win, India lost the three-match series 1-2, after Australia had won the first two matches by seven runs (DLS method) and two wickets, respectively.

The two sides will next meet in a five-match T20I series starting October 29 in Canberra.
