Kuldeep Yadav made an instant impact after the tea break, removing Ryan Rickelton caught behind on Day 1 of the second Test between India and South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Saturday, November 22. The left-arm wrist-spinner delivered a well-flighted ball that drifted in, pitched full just outside off, and then turned away.
Rickelton leaned forward for a loose drive, only to edge the ball as captain Rishabh Pant snapped up a sharp catch behind the stumps. The South African batter fell for 35 off 82 deliveries, which included five fours. With this wicket, Kuldeep helped India bring South Africa down to 82/2.
The breakthrough came in the 28th over of the Proteas’ first innings, just the second ball after tea, a session moved ahead of lunch to preserve playing time at the northeastern venue. Notably, this is the first Test match ever hosted at the stadium. You can watch the video here:

Bumrah And Kuldeep Remove SA Openers Inside 28 Overs On Day 1
India’s bowlers had to work hard to break the 82-run opening stand between Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton before Jasprit Bumrah finally dismissed Markram right at the tea break. Markram, who looked settled during his 38 off 81 deliveries, couldn’t push on. Shortly after, Kuldeep Yadav sent Rickelton back as well.
At the time of writing, South Africa were 92/2, with Tristan Stubbs and captain Temba Bavuma in the middle. The visitors shocked India by clinching the series opener in Kolkata, winning by 30 runs to go 1-0 up in the two-match contest. It marked India’s fourth defeat in six home Tests since Gautam Gambhir took over as head coach last year.
India will now be desperate to win the second Test and avoid another series loss, having already been swept 0-3 at home by New Zealand last year. Rishabh Pant is leading the side in place of Shubman Gill, who is out with a stiff neck. The hosts have made two changes to the XI, bringing back Sai Sudharsan and Nitish Kumar Reddy in place of Gill and Axar Patel.
