Team India captain Shubman Gill was dismissed for 23 off 18 deliveries at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday, January 18, during the third and final ODI of the ongoing series against New Zealand. The Men in Blue are now tasked with chasing a daunting 338-run target in the series decider under pressure.
Gill began positively, striking a brilliant four off Kyle Jamieson in the seventh over, but couldn’t build on it. Jamieson struck back immediately, bowling a good-length delivery outside off-stump. Gill attempted to defend, but the ball jagged back sharply, hit his front pad, and shattered the stumps.

The ongoing series marked Shubman Gill’s comeback to ODI cricket after missing India’s three-match home series against South Africa due to a neck injury. He impressed with consecutive fifties in the first two games, scoring 56 off 71 balls and 56 off 53. The 26-year-old concluded the series with 135 runs from three matches, averaging 45.
Rohit Sharma And Shubman Gill Back In The Pavilion Early As India Stumble In Chase vs NZ
India got off to a shaky start in their run chase as experienced opener Rohit Sharma struggled, falling in the fourth over after scoring 11 runs off 13 balls. He was caught at long-on off pacer Zakary Foulkes. With both openers, Sharma and Shubman Gill, back in the pavilion quickly, the responsibility now falls on Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer to stabilize the innings for the home side.
Interestingly, New Zealand also lost two early wickets when batting first, putting them under early pressure. However, Daryl Mitchell (137 off 131) and Glenn Phillips (106 off 88) produced brilliant centuries, guiding the Black Caps to a total of 337/8 in their 50 overs with a dominant late surge.
