India’s star fast bowler, Mohammed Shami, knocked over former captain Virat Kohli’s middle stump during a practice session on Friday, February 28. This happened just days before India’s final group-stage match in the 2025 Champions Trophy against New Zealand, set for Sunday, March 2, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
The Men in Blue have started the tournament strongly, securing a semi-final berth from Group A alongside New Zealand after convincing victories over Bangladesh and Pakistan in their opening matches.
As India prepared for their clash against the Black Caps, they hit the practice ground on Friday, where Shami delivered a stunning ball that sent Kohli’s middle stump flying. You can watch the video here:

The Indian fast bowler had a stellar start to the tournament, claiming a five-wicket haul in the opening match against Bangladesh and registering figures of 5-53. However, in the following game against Pakistan, the 34-year-old went wicketless and exited the field briefly after his fifth over due to a minor discomfort.
Shami later returned to complete eight overs in the match. Now, as India prepares to face New Zealand, he has gained crucial practice in the nets, offering a significant boost to the Men in Blue.

Mohammed Shami holds the record for the most wickets by an Indian in ICC ODI tournaments, having taken an impressive 60 wickets in just 20 innings. Former fast bowler Zaheer Khan follows closely behind with 59 wickets in 32 innings, showcasing his consistency over the years.
Javagal Srinath ranks third on the list with 47 wickets in 35 innings, proving his reliability as a pacer during his era. Ravindra Jadeja sits in fourth place with 43 wickets in 32 innings, highlighting his impact as an all-rounder. Jasprit Bumrah rounds out the top five with 42 wickets in 25 innings.
Overall, Shami has represented India in 105 ODIs, claiming a remarkable 202 wickets at an average of 23.85 and a strike rate of 25.6. He has also recorded six five-wicket hauls in his career while maintaining an economy rate of 5.57, making him one of India’s most successful fast bowlers in ODI cricket.
