[WATCH]- Mohammed Shami Takes Taskin’s Wicket, Secures Sixth 5-Fer In IND vs BAN Champions Trophy 2025

Mohammed Shami was the standout performer with the ball for India in their Champions Trophy 2025 opener against Bangladesh in Dubai on Thursday, February 20. The pacer sent Taskin Ahmed back for just three runs, with Shreyas Iyer taking a straightforward catch. This wicket also marked Shami’s fifth in the match.

The dismissal occurred in the second-last over of Bangladesh’s innings. Shami delivered a slower ball on the pads, and Taskin attempted to flick it for a six, only to find Iyer, who made an easy catch. Shami celebrated his sixth five-wicket haul in ODIs with great joy. You can watch the video here:

Mohammed Shami began by removing Soumya Sarkar (duck) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (5), giving India a strong start. Later, the 34-year-old pacer sent Jaker Ali back to break the 154-run partnership between him and centurion Towhid Hridoy.

With that wicket, Shami became the fastest to reach 200 ODI wickets in terms of balls bowled. He then dismissed Tanzim Hasan Sakib before claiming his final scalp, Taskin Ahmed, in his last over.

The UP-born pacer was the top wicket-taker in the 2023 ODI World Cup with 24 wickets. Shami is key for India in the Champions Trophy as they chase back-to-back ICC titles, following their 2024 T20 World Cup win, especially with star pacer Jasprit Bumrah ruled out due to a back injury from the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Fans praised Shami’s performance:
