[WATCH]- Mohammed Siraj Dismisses Chanderpaul Early In 1st Test vs WI

India’s frontline pacer Mohammed Siraj struck the first blow on the opening day of the Test series against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Thursday, October 2. West Indies opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul fell for a duck after gloving a delivery down the leg side, with wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel completing a simple catch.

The breakthrough came in the fourth over of the innings, with Siraj operating alongside Jasprit Bumrah with the new ball. Delivering from back of a length outside leg stump, Siraj forced the left-hander into a fine glance that brushed the glove before carrying through to the keeper. Returning to the Test arena for the first time since January 2024, Chanderpaul faced 11 balls but couldn’t get off the mark.

By this stage, Hyderabad pacer Mohammed Siraj had already added two more wickets to his tally. He dismissed Brandon King for 8, with the right-hander misjudging a sharp in-swinger that crashed into the middle stump after being left alone. Siraj then accounted for Alick Athanaze, who scored 12 off 24 balls before edging a wide delivery to KL Rahul at slip. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah joined the action by removing opener John Campbell.

Siraj emerges as leading wicket-taker on England tour

Mohammed Siraj enjoyed a remarkable series in England, finishing as the highest wicket-taker across the five Tests. The pacer claimed 23 wickets in nine innings at an average of 32.43, playing a key role in India securing a 2-2 draw. His standout performance came in the final Test at The Oval, where he picked up nine wickets to inspire a thrilling six-run victory.

England, cruising at 301/3 in pursuit of 374, collapsed dramatically to be bowled out for 367. Earlier in Ahmedabad, West Indies captain Roston Chase won the toss and chose to bat first. The contest also marks India’s first home Test under Shubman Gill’s leadership and their return to red-ball cricket at home after the 3-0 series defeat to New Zealand last year.
