Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj had a go at Joe Root with a verbal jibe, mocking England’s overly cautious approach after the Lunch break on Day 1 of the third Test at Lord’s on Thursday, July 10. The English batters had no choice but to adopt a watchful approach against India’s disciplined bowling attack, which was generating both swing and seam movement.
Earlier in the day, England’s openers struggled against the new-ball duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep and eventually fell to Nitish Kumar Reddy. Following their dismissals, Ollie Pope and Joe Root showed determination and ensured the team didn’t suffer further setbacks before Lunch.
As the second session began, Bumrah and Siraj tightened the screws with a relentless spell that featured 28 consecutive dot balls. Despite the pressure, Pope and Root stuck to their defensive strategy and showed resilience to keep the bowlers from making another breakthrough.
In the first two Tests, England’s batters thrived on flat pitches, but the third Test saw them struggle against tougher conditions and a sharp Indian attack. Shubman Gill taunted them from the slips, saying, “Welcome to Boring Test Cricket,” while Mohammed Siraj had a fiery exchange with Joe Root after a mistimed shot.
“Baz Baz Bazball. Come on, I want to see,” Siraj’s comments were caught on the stump mic (via Sony Sports Network).

Joe Root and Ollie Pope Stay Unbeaten in Second Session of 3rd Test
The English duo managed to survive a testing second session on Day 1, facing disciplined bowling, occasional pitch surprises, and verbal jabs from the Indian fielders. They held their ground and went into the Tea Break safely with the score at 153/2.
Towards the end of the session, India brought on spin from both ends, giving an over each to Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar. England added 70 runs in 24 overs during this period, scoring at a rate of 2.92 runs per over.
