Excitement ahead of Chennai Super Kings’ crucial clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad reached another level after the franchise shared a viral video featuring hundreds of fans gathered outside the team hotel. Supporters assembled in huge numbers hoping to catch a glimpse of former skipper MS Dhoni before the team left for the stadium.

MS Dhoni Makes Rare Matchday Appearance Ahead of CSK Clash

The massive excitement surrounding MS Dhoni is largely linked to his limited travel during the ongoing IPL 2026 season. After suffering a serious calf strain in pre-season training, the 44-year-old has missed the entire campaign and has mostly stayed back at the team hotel, even during several of Chennai Super Kings’ previous home matches.

However, with Monday marking Chennai’s final confirmed home fixture of the league stage, Dhoni broke from his usual routine and travelled with the 60-member squad to the stadium. Fans were quick to notice his fresh clean-shaven appearance in the viral departure video, interpreting it as a positive sign ahead of the much-anticipated clash.

Although the excitement around his presence continues to grow, especially after an intense 30-minute net session on Sunday, uncertainty still remains over whether he will feature in the playing XI. Reports suggest the veteran wicketkeeper-batter recently sustained a thumb injury before the team’s trip to Lucknow.

Training sessions reportedly showed Dhoni comfortably clearing the ropes against spin bowling, but sources indicate he is yet to regain full match fitness. Whether he starts the game or appears as an Impact Player, Dhoni’s presence at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium is expected to be the emotional highlight of the evening.

After the match, the entire Chennai squad is also set to take part in their traditional end-of-season lap of honour to thank the fans for their continued support.
