CSK is currently in the fourth position on the IPL 2024 scoreboard
Regarding the IPL, Dhoni surprised everyone by appearing to bat at the No. 9 position during the match against Punjab Kings. His decision to send Shardul Thakur ahead of himself in the batting order puzzled many fans and experts.
Former Indian cricketers such as Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh criticized Dhoni strongly for this move, suggesting that he shouldn’t be a part of the team if he intends to bat so low in the lineup. However, it has since been revealed that Dhoni’s delayed entry into the game is due to an injury.
According to a report by the Times of India, Dhoni is nursing a leg muscle tear, which hinders his ability to run for extended periods on the field. Consequently, the veteran cricketer is reluctant to bat early for CSK, as running between the wickets poses a challenge for him.
“We are virtually playing with our ‘B’ team. Those who are criticizing Dhoni don’t know the sacrifice that he is doing for this team,” the report quoted a source as saying.
The report also mentioned that if Devon Conway, the team’s backup wicketkeeper-batsman, had been accessible, Dhoni would have likely opted to rest him for several matches.
