Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) veteran wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni shared a light-hearted moment with Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) Pyla Avinash after their IPL 2025 clash at the Maharaja Yadavindra Stadium in Mullanpur on Tuesday. The two cricketers, who share the same birthday, bonded after the match as Dhoni signed Avinash’s jersey and posed for pictures with him and other young players.
Avinash, born on July 7, is in his debut season with PBKS. The 24-year-old has featured in just five T20 matches so far, amassing 81 runs at an average of 20.25, including a top score of 55. Though he hasn’t played a match this season, the youngster enjoyed a memorable interaction with the CSK legend.
Watch the video below as Dhoni curiously asks Avinash about his birth date and year:

As CSK and PBKS prepare to face off again on April 30 at Chepauk in Chennai, Avinash will be hoping to get a chance to take the field against the former Super Kings captain.
MS Dhoni’s Heroics Fall Short as CSK Slump to Fourth Straight Defeat
The seasoned campaigner couldn’t pull off a finish against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur, as CSK fell short by 18 runs, marking PBKS’ third win in four games this season. MS Dhoni briefly turned back the clock with two back-to-back sixes off Lockie Ferguson, hinting at vintage form.
He was eventually dismissed for a quickfire 27 off 12 by Yash Thakur in the final over, with Yuzvendra Chahal taking a nervy catch. Chasing a daunting 220, CSK came up short despite the late fireworks. The standout performer of the match was Priyansh Arya, who smashed a blistering 103 off 42 balls, even as five of his teammates failed to reach double digits.
CSK will now host defending champions KKR on Friday, while PBKS head to Hyderabad for a Saturday clash with the SunRisers.
