Former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni recently paid a visit to the Maa Dewri temple in Diuri village near his hometown, Ranchi. The 43-year-old sought divine blessings at the historic temple ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Known for his faith and traditions, Dhoni frequently visits the Maa Dewri temple before each IPL season and other significant tournaments. Continuing this ritual, he offered prayers to Goddess Dewri ahead of IPL 2025.

Notably, ahead of the 2011 World Cup, the wicketkeeper-batter is said to have pledged at the Maa Dewri temple to shave his head if India emerged victorious. True to his word, he fulfilled the vow by donating his hair after the Men in Blue’s historic win.

MS Dhoni was retained by CSK as an uncapped player for ₹4 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. According to the updated retention rules, franchises can classify an Indian player as uncapped if they haven’t played international cricket or held a BCCI central contract in the past five years.

MS Dhoni begins batting practice ahead of IPL 2025

IPL 2024 was widely expected to be MS Dhoni’s farewell season. However, the veteran cricketer had other ideas, choosing not to announce his retirement despite CSK’s exit in the league stage.

Last season, Dhoni mostly batted at No. 8 in CSK’s lineup but still thrilled fans with his explosive cameos. The hard-hitting batter amassed 161 runs in the tournament from just 73 deliveries, boasting an impressive strike rate of 220.54.

Ahead of IPL 2024, MS Dhoni passed the CSK captaincy baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Despite the leadership change, the five-time champions had a disappointing season, missing out on playoff qualification. They ended fifth in the standings with a record of seven wins and seven losses.
