Mahendra Singh Dhoni made a much-celebrated return as captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for their IPL 2025 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Chepauk, Chennai, on Friday, April 11. The crowd erupted with thunderous applause as Dhoni stepped out for the toss.

He was reappointed as skipper after regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined for the season due to an elbow fracture. The Chepauk faithful were ecstatic to see their beloved leader back at the helm, hoping he can steer the team out of their current struggles.

CSK hoping to revive their campaign under the leadership of MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni, one of the most decorated captains of the modern era, has led India to two World Cup titles and an ICC Champions Trophy. He has also guided the Chennai Super Kings to five IPL championships, placing them level with the Mumbai Indians for the most titles.

CSK fans will be banking on Dhoni’s magic to spark a revival in what has been a disappointing season so far. However, turning things around won’t be easy, with the team having lost four of their five matches.

They began their campaign on a positive note, defeating arch-rivals Mumbai Indians on a sluggish surface at Chepauk, but their form nosedived soon after. Following this match, CSK will hit the road for two consecutive away games before returning to Chepauk on April 25 to take on Sunrisers Hyderabad.
