[WATCH]- Mustafizur Rahman Registers A Stunning Spell Against USA

Bangladesh’s left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman delivered an outstanding performance, claiming record-breaking figures of 6/10 in four overs, leading the team to a 10-wicket victory over the USA in the third T20I held in Houston.

The Tigers had suffered surprising defeats in the first two T20Is, conceding the series to the underdog USA. With the T20 World Cup less than a week away, Bangladesh urgently needed a win, and their experienced bowler rose to the occasion.

Mustafizur secured two wickets in his initial spell and then wrapped up the tail-enders in the final overs. His remarkable six-wicket haul helped Bangladesh limit the USA to a meager total of 104/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Mustafizur achieved his career-best T20I figures, surpassing the previous record of 5/13 by Elias Sunny, marking the best performance by a Bangladeshi bowler in this format. The 28-year-old recently participated in IPL 2024, where he secured 14 wickets in nine matches for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Mustafizur’s remarkable performance also ranks him among the top ten best figures in T20I history. Bangladesh ensured that his exceptional bowling display didn’t go to waste, swiftly completing the run-chase within the 12th over without losing a single wicket.

Mustafizur Rahman was named Player of the Match and Series

Mustafizur Rahman earned both the Player of the Match and Series accolades for his remarkable bowling performance against the USA. With a six-wicket haul in the final T20I, the left-arm pacer concluded the series with 10 wickets in three matches, averaging 8.20.

During the post-match presentation, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Shanto conveyed Mustafizur’s sentiments. He stated:

“He (Mustafiz) is very happy. I think where he bowled he was very happy. He tried a lot of variation and mix it up. That’s what he does. Today others didn’t do all those things. (Winning the POTS and POTM award) He feels very good.”

The experienced pacer has impressive T20I statistics, having claimed 120 wickets at an average of 21.56 and an economy rate of 7.55 in 96 matches.

Despite Mustafizur’s outstanding performance in the series finale, Bangladesh faced a significant setback before the T20 World Cup with a 1-2 defeat to the USA. Their campaign will kick off with a match against Sri Lanka in Dallas on June 8th.
