Team India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was trapped LBW by off-spinner Nathan Lyon, ending his struggling innings on Day 3 of the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Jadeja, who scored a fighting 77 in the previous Test in Brisbane, failed to find his rhythm here. He appeared uncomfortable against Lyon, who eventually sent him back, further denting India’s position.

After Rishabh Pant threw away his wicket with a reckless shot, the responsibility fell on Jadeja and Nitish Reddy to push India’s total. However, the left-hander couldn’t make an impact and was dismissed for 17 off 51 balls.

Nathan Lyon bowled a slider that angled in, and Ravindra Jadeja attempted to play across the line but missed. The ball struck his back pad, and he was adjudged LBW.

After consulting Nitish Reddy, Jadeja reviewed the decision, but replays confirmed the ball would have clipped the top of middle and off stumps. This marked the seventh time Lyon has dismissed Jadeja in 16 Test innings.

When Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed, India needed 54 more runs to avoid the follow-on. However, Washington Sundar and Nitish Reddy steadied the innings, keeping the scoreboard moving and narrowing the deficit. By lunch on Day 3, the visitors had reached 244/7, still trailing by 230 runs.

How has Ravindra Jadeja fared in the current BGT 2024-25?

The experienced all-rounder missed India’s playing XI for the first two Tests of the five-match series. Washington Sundar featured in the opener in Perth, while Ravichandran Ashwin was chosen for the second Test in Adelaide.

Ravindra Jadeja was brought into the XI for the third Test at the Gabba, where he scored a crucial 77 to help India avoid the follow-on. However, he failed to take any wickets in the rain-affected match.
