India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy took a brilliant catch to dismiss West Indies opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul on Day 3 (Saturday, October 4) of the first Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The wicket fell on the second ball of the eighth over in the visitors’ second innings.

Mohammed Siraj bowled a short delivery targeting Chanderpaul’s body. The left-hander attempted to pull it towards square leg, but Nitish Kumar Reddy dived full-length to his left, showing incredible reflexes, and completed a spectacular catch. You can watch the video here:

The left-hander had another poor outing, managing only eight runs off 23 balls, including a single boundary and offering little resistance. His wicket left West Indies at 12/1 after 7.2 overs. At the time of writing, the visitors were 21/1 in their second innings, still 265 runs behind, with John Campbell (12) and Alick Athanaze (1) at the crease.

Seamer Mohammed Siraj shone brilliantly for India, claiming 4/40 as the hosts dismissed West Indies for just 162 in 44.1 overs in their first innings. In response, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 36, while Sai Sudharsan fell cheaply for seven. KL Rahul continued his impressive run of form, scoring his 11th Test century and his second at home this season.

The right-hander made 100 off 197 balls, hitting 12 boundaries, while captain Shubman Gill added 50 off 100 balls with five fours. Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja then shared a 206-run partnership for the fifth wicket, facing 331 deliveries. Jurel scored his maiden Test century, finishing with 125 off 210 balls, including 15 fours and three sixes.

Dhruv Jadeja registered his sixth Test hundred, remaining unbeaten on a fluent 104 off 176 balls. India declared their first innings at 448/5 after 128 overs, securing a commanding lead of 286 runs.
