Nuwan Thushara delivered a standout performance with the ball for MI Cape Town against Pretoria Capitals in their SA20 match at SuperSport Park in Centurion on Friday, February 2. The Sri Lankan medium-pacer caught the attention of coach Lasith Malinga by dislodging stumps in consecutive deliveries.
Thushara made crucial breakthroughs in the fourth over of the Capitals’ run chase. The right-arm pacer delivered a full-length ball that swung back in, breaking the stumps and dismissing Rilee Rossouw for a three-ball duck.
Subsequently, he claimed the wicket of Colin Ackermann with another full-length delivery, pitching and moving away to beat the outside edge and dislodge the off-stump. Malinga expressed delight with a beaming smile in the dugout.

Thushara concluded his impressive bowling performance by dismissing Shane Dadswell for a golden duck with a precise yorker, ultimately achieving excellent figures of 3/37 in his four overs. The 29-year-old has now secured seven wickets in four matches during the ongoing SA20.

MI Cape Town secured a comprehensive 34-run victory against Pretoria Capitals in the SA 20 clash on Friday, driven by a well-rounded performance. Batting first, Cape Town posted a formidable total of 248/4 in their 20 overs.
Ryan Rickelton led the charge with 90 runs off 45 balls, while Dewald Brevis contributed an unbeaten 66 from 32 deliveries. Captain Kieron Pollard, Sam Curran, and Rassie van der Dussen also made valuable contributions. Wayne Parnell stood out for Pretoria Capitals, taking three wickets but conceding 57 runs in his four overs.
MI Cape Town successfully limited the Capitals to 214/8 in their response. Kyle Verreynne delivered a remarkable performance with the bat, scoring 116 off 52, featuring nine sixes and seven boundaries. However, despite his efforts, the team fell short in the substantial chase as other batsmen struggled. Besides Thushara, Kagiso Rabada secured two wickets, while Sam Curran, Nealan van Heerden, and Captain Pollard each took one wicket.
