Manchester Originals captain Phil Salt lit up the field with a breathtaking one-handed catch during their Hundred 2025 encounter against Trent Rockets at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on August 19 (Tuesday). The standout moment unfolded in the second innings when Rockets’ left-hander Max Holden miscued a slower ball from Josh Tongue.
What seemed destined to land safely near mid-off turned into a highlight-reel dismissal as Salt reacted in a flash. Launching himself full length to his right, he stuck out one hand and completed a remarkable grab, drawing admiration from both teammates and fans. You can watch the video here:

Although Salt’s catch earned widespread applause, it had little bearing on the outcome of the match. The Rockets chased down the modest target with ease, sealing a seven-wicket victory after restricting the Originals to a below-par 98/8 from their 100 balls.
Originals Struggle As Salt Battles For Form In The Hundred 2025
For the Originals, the tournament has been disappointing so far. With just two wins in six games, they remain stuck in the lower half of The Hundred 2025 standings. Phil Salt himself has endured an inconsistent season, collecting 163 runs in six innings at an average of 27.16 and a strike rate of 133.60.
He was dismissed for 19 off 20 balls in the first innings, finishing as the second-highest scorer for the Originals, who could only post 98/8, with David Willey starring with figures of 3/11. In reply, leg-spinning all-rounder Rehan Ahmed led the chase with a composed 45 off 35 deliveries, well supported by Tom Moores’ 22.
The Rockets comfortably overhauled the target, reaching it in just 74 balls with seven wickets still in hand.
“A bit of experience and understanding the game… I tried to use my change-ups,” Willey said afterwards, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
“Nice to get those early poles. We felt these guys were top-heavy. We’ve had a great group. We’ve felt like we’ve played a lot together, and feel like a real unit. Makes for a great game on Thursday. That intent we’ve talked a lot about, Rehan epitomises that. He’s a tricky one to bowl at,” he added.
