Team India debutant Rahul Tripathi made his presence felt in the field with an outstanding catch against Sri Lanka in the second T20I on Thursday, January 5 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. His effort resulted in Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka walking back to the hut disappointed.
The incident took place during the 12th over of the first innings, Axar Patel bowled a short delivery. Nissanka hammered the delivery away but found Rahul Tripathi at a deep point. The debutant took a great catch in the field to complete the dismissal. He swiftly moved to his left and positioned himself to catch the ball. Nissanka managed to score 33 runs off 35 deliveries during his stay at the crease.

Sri Lanka eventually managed to put on 206 runs on the board, on the back of blistering innings’ from Kusal Medis and skipper Dasun Shanaka. Kusal Mendis scored 52 runs off 31 deliveries, with three boundaries and four sixes. Meanwhile, Dasun Shanka slammed six sixes and two boundaries for his 56 runs off just 22 deliveries.
Axar Patel-Suryakumar Yadav battle after India’s poor start
Chasing 207 runs, Team India got off to a poor start in the second T20I against Sri Lanka at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. They were reduced to 57 runs with the likes of Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Hardik Pandya, and Deepak Hooda already back in the hut. After the fall of early wickets, Suryakumar Yadav got together with Axar Patel to launch a fightback. The duo took India to 139 runs in 15 overs.
Axar Patel slammed a fifty off just 21 deliveries, while Suryakumar Yadav scored a 32-ball 44. They slammed Wanindu Hasaranga for a 26-runs in the 14th over of the innings. Kasun Rajitha picked up two wickets, while Chamika Karuratne, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Dilshan Madushanka took a wicket each. Team India needs 68 runs in five overs, with five wickets in hand to seal the three-match T20I series 2-0.
