Birmingham Phoenix ended their losing streak in The Hundred 2025 with a close four-wicket win over Oval Invincibles, but the main highlight of the match was Rashid Khan’s remarkable helicopter six. Batting towards the end of the Invincibles’ innings, Rashid impressed the crowd by hitting a full delivery over mid-wicket with an MS Dhoni-style helicopter shot.

The ball travelled deep into the stands, earning loud cheers and attention on social media. However, Rashid’s performance with the ball was disappointing. He bowled the most expensive spell in men’s Hundred history and of his T20 career, conceding 59 runs from his 20 balls without taking a wicket.

The biggest damage came in his final five deliveries, when Phoenix captain Liam Livingstone scored 26 runs with a sequence of 4, 6, 6, 6, 4. Chasing 181 on a good batting pitch, Phoenix needed 61 runs from the last 25 balls. Livingstone’s quick scoring against Rashid turned the game, and more boundaries against Tom Curran brought the target within reach.

Saqib Mahmood struck twice in two balls late on, but Benny Howell kept his cool to seal Phoenix’s first win after two losses. Invincibles suffered their first defeat, while Rashid Khan had a mixed night, hitting a standout shot but posting his worst bowling figures.

Why Rashid Khan’s Form Has Been Inconsistent?

Rashid Khan has faced this situation before. Ever since his back surgery following the 2023 World Cup, both his form and reliability have suffered. He has since admitted that coming back too soon was a major factor, citing the 55 overs he delivered in a Test match against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo as an example.

“In T20s, it’s fine – you can manage yourself – but for the longer formats, I was advised that you should be away from that format for some time. That is the kind of mistake I have made. But the team needed that.”

“At that time, we had lost a few games in Test cricket, but that’s something where I rushed myself a little bit, and I didn’t give myself time and I felt it later on. Yes, I think I have done a mistake where my body was not allowing me that and I’m facing a problem. The thing is the stiffness in your back doesn’t allow you to go with full rhythm.”
