[WATCH]- Ravindra Jadeja Strikes As Bavuma Falls For 41 In IND vs SA 2nd Test
Ravindra Jadeja

Team India’s experienced spinner Ravindra Jadeja delivered a crucial breakthrough by dismissing South Africa captain Temba Bavuma in the final session on Day 1 of the second Test at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. Bavuma, who showed resilience during his stay, scored 41 off 92 balls and built a steady third-wicket stand with Tristan Stubbs.

India had been pushed on the defensive during the second session as Bavuma and Stubbs took control following Ryan Rickelton’s fall in the 28th over. With the hosts eager to break the growing partnership, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah opened the attack after the Lunch Break to start the final session.

In just the third over of the session, Jadeja floated a delivery outside the off-stump. Bavuma, lured into attempting a big shot, stepped out to loft the ball over the off side, aiming to pierce the gap between cover and mid-off. But the attempt went wrong as the ball went straight to Yashasvi Jaiswal, who moved forward to grab a sharp catch.

This was the second instance of Ravindra Jadeja dismissing Temba Bavuma in Test cricket. The South African captain had also fallen to the left-arm spinner during his very first Test innings in India a decade earlier.

India Seek Breakthroughs As South Africa Aim To Dominate

Aside from the two quick wickets around the Tea Break, India have struggled to make further inroads, with South Africa building strong partnerships that have tested the bowlers. The Proteas now aim to stitch together another meaningful stand in the final session to take charge of Day 1.

At present, they are 175/3 in the 41st over, with Tony de Zorzi joining a well-set Tristan Stubbs at the crease.
