In the opening T20I clash between India Women and England Women at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Renuka Thakur Singh showcased her bowling prowess by claiming successive wickets in the initial over. Sophia Dunkley faced a dilemma on the fourth delivery, caught between leaving or playing the off-stump length delivery towards third-man. Her indecision cost her wicket as the ball hit the bat and elbow before clattering into the stumps, sending Dunkley back for a mere one run.

Thakur continued her impressive spell, dismissing Alice Capsey, who failed to defend the first ball. A well-executed delivery with a wobble seam on off-stump deceived Capsey, uprooting her off-stump as she stood fixed at the crease, departing without scoring, resulting in jubilation among Thakur and her teammates. The Women in Blue reduced the visitors to a precarious 2/2 in just 0.5 overs.

Renowned for her effectiveness against England Women, Renuka Thakur Singh had previously achieved a career-best bowling performance of 5/15 in her last encounter with the English side. Despite this, her recent stint in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) saw her securing only one wicket in six league games during the 2023 edition.

Following the early setback, England Women found stability through Danielle Wyatt and Natalie Sciver-Brunt. The duo orchestrated a remarkable recovery with a 138-run partnership for the third wicket. Wyatt’s explosive innings featured 75 runs off 47 balls, including two sixes and eight boundaries. Saika Ishaque provided respite for India Women by stumping out Wyatt in the 16th over.

Despite the setback, England Women posted a formidable total of 197/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Sciver-Brunt contributed significantly with a well-crafted 77 off 53 deliveries, adorned with 13 boundaries. Amy Jones played a quickfire cameo, adding 23 runs off just nine balls.

In India Women’s bowling effort, Renuka Thakur emerged as the standout performer, concluding with figures of 3/27. Shreyanka Patil chipped in with two wickets, while Saika Ishaque contributed with one wicket.
